ELECTION OF THE GENERAL COUNCIL
The work of the Capitulants is now focused on the General Council. The Chapter has approved new structures concerning Animation and Government. The process that will be followed is in accord with these new norms.
There will be two days of straw voting by Regional groups. This system of election is new, in so far as the Superior General may make known his own choices after analyzing the ballots. The Capitulants are free to vote for any Brother, whether or not he is a Capitulant. In the last Chapter of 2000, one of the present Councilors, Miguel Campos (Cuba) was not a Capitulant nor was he in Rome when he was elected.
The first round of voting will be for the Vicar and then ballots will be cast for eight Councilors, three of whom will reside in Rome and for five others who will become Regional Councilors.
