APLEC Conference: The Asia Pacific Lasallian Educators' Congress '98 (APLEC) will be held in Hong Kong, China on December 17-22, 1998. Shared Mission in the Context of Religious Pluralism will be the theme of the discussions of delegates coming from Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Philippines, Australia, Papua-New Guinea, New Zealand and China.

More than one hundred and twenty (120) delegates are expected, consisting of Brothers, and a great majority of lay colleagues. They will reflect on, and share their experience of promoting Lasallian education in the Asian context, in countries and societies that are multi-religious, multi-cultural, and multi-ethnic. Brother Gerard Rummery, General Councillor, will be the chief presenter, and Brother John D'Cruz of the Penang District, will be the main facilitator for the Congress.

The Lasallians of the Sub-District Hong Kong, under the leadership of Brother Patrick Tierney, Auxiliary Visitor, have been working enthusiastically in different committees for over a year to prepare for the Congress. The sessions will be held in La Salle College, Kowloon City. Observers from other regions of the Lasallian Institute are also expected. Each country's delegation will give a cultural presentation during the Congress.

APLEC is sponsored by the Institute's Pacific-Asia Regional Conference of Brother Visitors (PARC). The first two previous congresses were held in the Philippines (1994) and in Singapore (1996).
