Today was set aside as a day of recollection for the members of the Chapter. The day began with prayer in the Generalate Chapel. Based on a reading from Blain, Brother John Johnston, Superior General, offered some significant reflections for the Brothers. His reflections centered on the name "Brother" that has been used since the very early days of our founding, a name that "embodies the meaning of (our) vocation and mission."
Following lunch, several of the "young" Brothers attending the Chapter invited the other members of the Chapter to join them in a game of football (soccer for the Americans). Those Brothers who have attended other Chapters reminded us that it was at such events in the past that many of the 'not-so-young' ended up with broken arms and sprained ankles. Providence was on our side because, except for a pulled muscle, the game went off without any problems. The playing fields used by the members of the Chapter are situated between the generalate and the Scuola San Giovanni Battista de La Salle. In the picture at the right, you can see the chapel tower. The closest building in the photo is the CIL building (International Lasallian Center), commonly referred to as 'Blocco C'.
The President of the General Chapter is the Brother Superior General who officially opens and closes the Chapter or each of its sessions. In the late afternoon, the members of the Chapter met in language groups in order to nominate, from each group, various other officers of the Chapter. These positions include Chapter Coordinator, Assembly Moderators, General Assembly Secretaries, Scrutineers, and a Chronicler or Chapter Historian.
The officers of the Chapter will be elected by the General Assembly on Saturday morning. |
