43º capítulo

The General Assembly took time this morning to elect the various officers of the Chapter who were nominated by the language groups yesterday. The following gives you the results of the voting and a brief description of the role of each individual or group.

The Chapter Coordinator, elected from among the Captiulants, has the responsibility of presiding over the Central Commission. The Central Commission proposes the work plans to the members of the Chapter and monitors the progress of work during the Chapter. It seeks to coordinate the work of the various Chapter groups and officers. Br. Maruice Lapoint of Canada francophone was elected to this position.

The Assembly Moderators are elected from among the Captiulants. There are three of them, one for each of the official languages (English, French and Spanish). They take turns in supervising the General Assemblies of the Chapter, and ensure that the Rules of Procedure are observed. The three Assembly Moderators will be Br. Joseph Hendron of the District of Great Britain, Br. Claude Reinhardt of the District of France and Br. José Antonio Diez de Medina the District of Bolivia.

The General Assembly Secretaries are also selected from among the Capitulants and auxiliary staff. They take the minutes of the general assemblies. The Chapter decided that there will be three General Assembly Secretaries. The Brothers selected are Br. Brian Dybowski of the New Orleans-Santa Fe District, Br. Alain Houry of the Casa Generalizia and Br. Luis Timón González of the District of Madrid.

The Scrutineers, or Tellers, are elected from among the members of the Chapter. It is their task to count the votes whenever there are written votes in the assembly. The Aula Magna, the Chapter hall, has an electronic voting system that is generally used for voting during the general assemblies. In the picture below you see Si (yes) No (no) Ast (Abstain) JM (juxta modem: yes but with reservation) and Tot (total). Often there is simply a show of hands in order to determine the mind of the Capitulants.

Elected as Tellers were Br. Nicolas Gonzalez of the New Orleans-Sanat Fe District, Br. Fadi Sfeir of the Region Proche Orient (Near East), Br. Juan Fuentes Padilla of ARLEP (Region of Spain and Portugal) and Br. Enrico Mueller of the Region of Italy.

The Chronicler or Chapter Historian is also elected from among the Capitulants. His task is to gather material reflecting what goes on in and around the Chapter. He records the various activities of the Chapter in a logical order and notes the various events that occur during the Chapter. The Chapter Historian will be Br. Bernard Collignon of the District of Douala.
