Photos from Guatemala: Greetings from my wounded Guatemala. With this, I am sending you the photos of Tecpán and Atitlán. We were there with those in formation, helping to give out food and to comfort people who had lost their loved ones and all their belongings.

Really, we have never before experienced anything like this. Thank God my little town is fine and is at present being used to receive people who have lost everything, who are from the villages of Ixtahuacán. There is praiseworthy work being done by the Brothers in Santa María who are already getting the college ready to receive the poor people…many have lost everything and their villages have disappeared completely…

La Salle Study Centre, Changjiao, Dabu-Huliao, CHINA: Br. David Liao gathered a team of teachers from Malaysia and assistants from his local senior students this summer to offer a Summer English Program in the village of Changjiao on mainland China. They began with a three day training session from the 14th to 16th of July.

When the course started they had 212 students. The feedback they received from students and parents alike was that they benefited a great deal, partly due to the small size of the classes.

Br. David said, “Throughout the summer, some villagers often shared their vegetables with us. Now and then we received a chicken, a duck or a fish. Once, a family of three killed a duck for dinner and decided to share half a duck with us. Often, after 9 p.m. when the children had gone home, some villagers would come over for a visit and I shared with them items donated by parents of students from Dabu-Huliao. The often quoted saying here is ‘If gifts are received, gifts must be given. If more is given, more will be received.’”

Even past the official closing day of the summer session, they continued to function from 7 to 11 each morning and 2:30 to 5:30 in the afternoon and 6:30 to 9:15 each night for students who wanted extra help. They finally closed completely on the1st September so that the school could re-opened on the 5th September. Br. David said, “Meanwhile, I am designing and building a little garden on a small piece of land in front of the La Salle Study Centre. I think it will look very pretty by next Spring.”

Good luck with the garden Br. David!

First Vows of Br. Josselin Tricou and a new Associate is received in Toulouse France: On Saturday September 10th 2005, in the chapel of St. Joseph’s College in Toulouse, and in the presence of some 200 persons who had come from all over France and also from Spain, Br. Josselin Tricou pronounced his First Vows. Moving moments succeeded each other in the course of the ceremony, whether it was the Litanies sung by Josselin’s dad, the commitment of Br.Josselin received by Br. Jacques d’Huiteau, the accolade given by the 50 Brothers present or the Offertory Procession evoking the major stages of Josselin’s life.

On the following day, Marie-Laure Congré, a teacher at Saint-Jo for the past 25 years, surrounded by the parish community, her family, the Brothers and several Associates, became an Associate of the Institute.

Fruitful meeting in St. Brieuc – France: On July 13th last, in the Lycée du Sacré-Coeur in St. Brieuc, the fourth meeting of Lay Associates with the Brothers of their communities of reference, took place. They were accompanied by Br. Robert Comte.

After a period of exchanges on their respective real-life experiences in their delegations, the target text drawn up in Spring, at Parménie, by four Associates, served as the work basis for the first two days. The Associates built up the reference text allowing them to clarify their faith journeys, to show their explicit commitment before God and to deepen the meaning of their educational work. They thus gave themselves a common means of expression for the meetings in which they will be drawn to participate.
