Video released in preparation for assemblies in 2006 and 2007: The video "'Together and by association' in the service of the poor" has been released in DVD format and sent to all of the Visitors and Regional Superiors of the Institute. It includes interviews with Br. Álvaro, Superior General, and 13 other Brothers made during the intercapitualar meeting in 2004. The 20 minute video, in Spanish, English and French, is intended to stimulate discussion in preparation for the 2006 "Associated for the Lasallian Educational Mission" assembly and for the 2007 General Chapter.

Three main themes are discussed by the interviewees: 1 Key Issues for the Future, 2 Association, and 3 Educational Service of the Poor. The DVD has been released with an accompanying "Activity Sheet" (also posted here) that can be used for group discussions about the themes. The Visitors and Regional Superiors have been asked to freely duplicate and distribute the DVD for use with Lasallian groups. Contact your local Visitor or Regional Superior to receive a copy.

Young Lasallians Celebrate a Day of Hope for Peace in Lebanon: The Lebanese Commission for Young Lasallians organised a walk in the Holy Valley in the North of Lebanon on May 6, 2005. All of the groups of Lasallian youth in the Lasallian schools of Lebanon participated in the walk. There were 102 persons present in this gathering. They walked in the Valley for almost 5 hours and, at the end, the Young Lasallians celebrated the Eucharist together putting all their hopes between the hands of the Lord hoping that peace will now be back in their Region of the world. Central Catholic High School Students Breaks Charity Fundraising Record: On April 29, 2005 students and faculty at Central Catholic High School, Pittsburgh, PA USA gathered together for an all-school liturgy to celebrate “Lasallian Solidarity” and the arrival of Br. Álvaro Rodríguez, Superior General, and to present him with the record-breaking funds raised through this year’s Lenten Mission Drive. The purpose of this year’s drive was to aid the St. Augustine’s School in the Sudan. Central Catholic students exceeded expectations and raised more than $16,600—a new record for the Lenten Mission Drive.

The overwhelming success of the Lenten Mission Drive is a testament to the selflessness of the Central Catholic student body. Assistant Principal for Student Affairs, Brother Robert Schaefer added, “The annual Lenten Mission Drive is a great opportunity for the students of Central Catholic to put into practice the principle of solidarity and show concern for our brothers and sisters in the developing world.”

The Lenten Mission Drive was capped by a much anticipated visit from Br. Alvaro. Following the presentation of the check, Brother Alvaro thanked the Central Catholic community for their goodwill and compassion toward those in need.

Holy Name School, New York, Celebrates 100 Years: On Friday, May 7, hundreds of alums returned to the Upper West Side for a liturgy marking the 100th anniversary of Holy Name School. During the Mass, Br. Richard Grieco, who has been teacher and administrator at Holy Name since 1971, was presented with the Francis Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Name Province. Hundreds also attended a banquet at the Sheridan Hotel that same evening. It was a night of much remembering of a school that continues its superb service to the children of the Upper West Side.
