BILBAO – SPAIN - THE BASQUE “COOPERANTE AWARD”: BROTHER PEDRO ARRAMBIDE RECEIVES THE AWARD FROM THE LEHENDAKARI: Brother Pedro Arrambide has received from the hands of the Lehendakari (President), Juan José Ibarreche, the Basque “Cooperante Award” in recognition of his work in Eritrea for more than 30 years and for his personal involvement in the promotion of innumerable development initiatives for the benefit of poor people.
Pedro Arambide was born in Gipuzkoa in 1941. While in charge of the Lasallian International Cooperation Body (SECOLI) in Rome, he was, for seven years, the driving force behind numerous aid projects for poor countries, mainly in Africa. For twelve years, he was in charge of the Mission Department of CONFER. In 1988, he founded the Lasallian NGO, PROYDE, with which he was involved for 10 years.
At present, he is continuing to promote new initiatives. This recognition honors also the many Brothers and other Lasallians who have made of their lives an option of service to the most disadvantaged.
