BOOK WRITTEN BY BROTHER PEDRO GIL LARRAÑAGA: In 1521, the Augustinian monk, Martin Luther wrote his opinion of the three vows of poverty, chastity and obedience as they were lived in his time.

In his passionate reflection he found that they should be rejected as contrary to the Gospel. Today, 500 hundred years later, this piece of writing helps us to understand some very important matters.

For example, why did Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint John Baptist De La Salle object to these three vows being taken in their communities? In addition, why, during the last half-century have we been fascinated by the experience of Taizé? In this book, Br.Pedro Gil, specialist in the history of our Lasallian Institute and of the Consecrated Life, presents the text of Luther translated by him as well as a presentation of the document and a theological study of the theme from the point of view of the present-day Lasallian world.
