Directors: Mr. William Wolff, Executive Director and Mrs. Anne Moscinski, Assoc. Executive Director
Contact Person: Ms. Nancy Crellin, Director of Service Management
Program Description: La Salle School is a multi-faceted community service organization offering a full range of clinical/counseling, educational, prevention, residential, recreational and support services to young men and their families. In addition to core programming in
special education and counseling, special counseling programs include a licensed substance abuse clinic, juvenile sexual victim of fender program, and adventure based recreation program.
Population Served: Adolescent young men 12-18 from throughout New York State who have experienced trouble at home, school or in the community. They are placed at La Salle School by family courts, probation and committees on special education.
Geographical Area of Service: We are located in Albany, NY. Less than three hours from NYC and Boston in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. We are an urban campus with an open setting.
Gifts/Skills/Talents most needed: Teaching/tutoring, campus ministry, campus recreation, outdoor/adventure recreation staff, transportation aide, teachers aide, work in our various counseling programs and assisting in special programs and projects. We would welcome anyone interested in working in this setting, with this special group of young men to contact us to discuss their personal talents and interests.
Age Minimum: 21 and over.
Minimum/Maximum length of service: 1 week to several months.
Housing Accommodations: The Brothers community can house up to four men at a given time. Other volunteers, including women, would be placed in the home of a staff member.
Other Requirements, Expectations and/or Restrictions: It is a challenging group of young men at La Salle School. Please consider the challenges (and rewards) that come from working with a behavioral disordered and emotionally disturbed group of adolescents.
Benefits: Vary depending on the nature of the service offered. Room and Board always, and some financial benefits for longer periods of volunteering.
Application Requirements: In order for us to work with volunteers to create an appropriate and rewarding experience, we need 1-2 months notice.
Special Notes:
Sometimes we can accommodate immersion groups and married couples, but we would need sufficient notice to make the arrangements.
Volunteers do not need to be Catholic, but those who stay with the Brothers will experience community prayer and mass that are based on Catholic tradition so it would allow for some comfort level if the volunteer is Catholic. However, if staying in the home of a staff person, and in order to perform the service (obviously) it is not necessary to be Catholic.
Orientation: Orientation to the apostolate and community is vital and provided initially
and accompanied by on-going supervision and processing. |
