Program Description: Elementary school beginning with Kindergarten in 2000, with a grade being added each year in the primary and middle school in 2001 (and there after). Summer programs will be offered for new kindergartners and 6th graders. The summer programs will include academic and recreational components.
Population Served: Working poor- African American, Caucasian, Vietnamese, and Hispanic.
Geographical Area of Service: Inner-city Memphis
Gifts/Skills/Talents most needed: Experienced educators or persons with a strong interest in a career in education.
Age Minimum: 20 and up.
Minimum/Maximum length of service: Summer Program: 4 weeks, School year: 1 week to 3 months.
Housing Accommodations: Large house with a community of Brothers. We have 2 private rooms and two dorm style rooms available.
Benefits: Room and Board, small stipend depending on the amount of time one can serve.
Application Requirements: To volunteer with us during the Summer Program we need a months notice. To volunteer during the school year, two weeks to a month is plenty of notice.
Special Notes: We cannot accommodate immersion groups, but we can accommodate married couples w/o dependents. Volunteers do not need to be Catholic.
Orientation: Orientation to apostolate and community would be provided upon arrival. |
