France – the Creation of the World Association of Lasallian Universities (IALU)

The representatives of 44 establishments of  Lasallian higher education from 16 different countries made official their project for world structuring of Lasallian higher education: the statutes of the International Association of Lasallian Universities (IALU) have been filed in France.

Birth of a world leader: 44 establishments and 250,000 students

These 44 founding members represent the 5 regions of the association, formed after a historical heritage:

Europe and French-speaking Africa

English-speaking Africa, North America and the region of Bethlehem

Asia and the Pacific Islands

Central America and South America

The adhesion of other universities to IALU is in progress.

By creating IALU, the Lasallian universities are giving themselves the means to respond to the challenges linked to the globalization of higher education and notably to an effect expected from demographic transition: the massive arrival of young people into higher education in Asia and Africa.

This creation also formalizes the recognition of a common awareness of the exceptional heritage of the Founder of Lasallian Pedagogy, John Baptist De La Salle. The seat of IALU is in Paris at the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Rue de Sevres.
