Michel-Sauvage

It is the custom at each General Chapter to receive a token from the Brother Superior General that would serve as a reference for reflection on the Institute. During the 45th General Chapter, at the beginning of the work session on May 15th, Brother Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría presented a book to the capitulants: The Fragile Hope of a Witness. The Life Journey of Brother Michel Sauvage (1923 – 2001) which is volume 18 in the Lasallian Studies Collection.

This book, which was presented by Brother Diego Muñoz, the coordinator of the Service of Lasallian Research and Resources, came about as the result of some dialogue between Brothers Michel Sauvage and Miguel Campos. They both had engaged in a series of interviews which structured the content of the book. Upon Brother Michel’s death, Brother Miguel continued the work of reflection as he gave the book a formal structure and emphasized the dynamic of hope as the connecting thread that was present throughout the narrative. Later on, Brother Miguel, with the support of Brother Superior General, gathered together a work team composed of Brothers Paul Grass, Robert Comte and Diego Muñoz, for the purpose of producing a final version of the book.

In the end, this book was written by ten hands, always seeking to be faithful to the thought and the experience shared by Michel and Miguel. The book is available in printed form, pdf and epub. We thank the Communications Service for their support in preparing the format in the three official languages of the Institute.
We invite you to discover in this story the significant events of the Institute in the 20th century. Brothers Michel and Miguel have left many unanswered questions for us so that they might be included in the challenges for this new century. We highly recommend that this book be used in formation processes, and especially to encourage in the Institute and throughout the entire Lasallian Family a review of out common journey based on hope.
