On the 23rd of July, two Novices from the District of ARLEP in RELEM made their first religious profession. They are Sebastián Riera and Basilio de Lucas. Both Novices had lived this year in the Novitiate community in Madrid along with a Polish Novice, Mateusz Debski, and their formators, Brothers Santos Maza and Esteban de Vega. Mateusz did not make his First Profession with his companions since he is waiting until September 3rd when he will do so in Poland.
The newly professed religious chose, as the theme for their celebration, a quotation from the prophet Isaias: “Here I am, Lord”. Previously, at the beginning of their Novitiate, they had chosen another biblical quotation: “Who will I send”. In this way, the theme of the Vow celebration closed the circle that was opened at the beginning of the Novitiate recognising that the response can only be given if sustained by confidence in God and not in one’s own strength.
A large group of Brothers, family, friends, associates and novices from the Inter-congregational Novitiate assisted at the celebration. In truth, it was a lovely occasion, very intimate and very Lasallian.
Two of the General Councillors also participated in the celebration, Br Aidan, the General Councillor with responsibility for RELEM and also for the Regional Novitiate, and Br Rafa Matas, originally from the District of ARLEP. Also present were Br Jesús Miguel Zamora, Visitor of ARLEP, and his Auxiliary Visitors.
Fr Vincent Esplugues, a Divine Word priest was the celebrant and he offered an inspiring reflection on being clay pots that carry a precious treasure. He invited us to focus more on the treasure, which is what God offers us with his love and his call, than on the clay that we are. Fortunately, that clay which we are is always sustained by the love of the Father.
The celebration also included the renewal of vows of Br Martín Montoya who is studying at Lewis University in the USA.
