LaSalle Philadelphia comes to Rome
From March 3 to March 10, a Political Science course at La Salle University in Philadelphia brought 18 students to La Salle Rome. The course focuses on the immigration and refugee crisis in Europe and compares these dynamics with those occurring in the United States. Italy was selected because, along with Greece, it is a frontline country receiving many people through the dangerous Mediterranean route. The week in Italy has allowed us to visit nonprofit organizations and speak with refugees, scholars, and representatives of government, religious organizations and nonprofit associations. These include the Centro Astalli, Le Colonne D’Ercole and CasArcobaleno, the latter in Naples.
Students in the course come from various disciplines, including political science, international relations, education and communication. The first time in Italy for most, the program has also included visits to the Vatican and historic sites in Rome and Tivoli.
We are most grateful to La Salle for providing us with excellent contacts and organization for this study.
