Brazil – Inauguration of the Religious Community Residence in Ananindeua

This new opening strengthens the Lasallian presence in the region.

On Sunday April 23, the new Formation Community Residence was opened in Ananindeua, Pará. The building will be home for the community of those preparing to live as De La Salle Brothers and for the prepostulants. It will also be the base for the La Salle Foundation Office.
The event began with a solemn celebration of the Eucharist by Archbishop Alberto Taveira Correa, followed by the ceremonial blessing and the inauguration itself, which was marked by the unveiling of a plaque by Brother Visitor, Edgar Genuino Nicodem. The occasion was completed with a celebratory meal enjoyed by all in an excellent spirit of camaraderie.
One hundred and twenty-one people took part in the event, including religious from various congregations, local dignitaries as members of the project Anjos da Guarda, and the Civil Guard of the town of Ananindeua. Others present included Brother Paulo Petry, General Councillor for RELAL, Brother Paulo Dullius from the Institute Generalate and Brothers Carlos Castañeda and Sergio Leal as members of the regional leadership council (RCA). In addition there were the young Brothers from various countries of Latin America who were taking part in the Regional Meeting for Young Brothers in Zé Doca (MA).
In the words of Brother Edgar, this new undertaking of the Lasallian Network «extends the Lasallian presence in northern Brazil, and it will be a concrete sign of hope through the work of education for those in need». Archbishop Alberto said «the building is sufficient to provide for the local community in the widest sense, and it will strengthen religious presence in the region».
