Spain – The 36th Congress of the European Team for Catechetics is held in the La Salle Centro Universitario

The 36th Congress of the European Team for Catechetics was held in the La Salle Centro, Madrid, from May 31st to June 5th, with 65 participants from 18 European countries.

The European Team for Catechetics was created in 1950 as a meeting point for experts in catechetics and the national directors of catechetics and catechetical centres throughout Europe. Its main event is the congress which takes place every two years.

The theme chosen for this year was “The family’s role in Christian Education and in the Development of Faith. In all, eight conferences were delivered with presentations of models of catechesis from eight different countries.

Among the highlights of the event, we can mention the visit paid by Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid, Dr Carlos Osoro, the organised trip to Toledo, the visit to two parishes in Madrid that are very active in catechetics for families. Finally there was a concluding Eucharist in the Cathedral of Madrid.

In particular, we must mention the good organisation of the event, thanks to the support of the Brothers’ community in Aravaca, the services of the University Campus and the Provincial House. We are also grateful for the kind way in which the community of the Colegio La Salle Maravillas made rooms available for accommodation. The participants all commented on the fraternal welcome given by our hosts.

The next congress will take place at the end of May 2019, in either Prague (The Chech Republic) or Lviv (The Ukraine).
