Twenty-four Brothers took part in the annual retreat in the Maison de Saint-Marc in Borg El Arab, Egypt, from the 7th to the 14th of July. The retreat giver was Father Guy Tardivy, Prior of the Dominican Convent of Saint-Jacques, Paris, and the theme was “Founded on Rock”.
Father Guy dwelt first on the teaching of Jesus presented in Matthew chapters 5 to 7, the Sermon on the Mount. He concluded the retreat with chapter 9 “the manifestations of mercy” and chapter 10, “the sending of the disciples to the lost sheep”.
Periods of silence and meditations enabled the Brothers to consider these teachings more deeply. Other important spiritual elements in the retreat were the recitation of the Office in community, the sacrament of reconciliation and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. For the closing Mass of the retreat, the Brothers were joined by a number of Lasallians from the Sector of Egypt as they gave thanks to God. This was followed by a fraternal meal together.
