The aim of the meeting was to evaluate the Lasallian Mission in the De La Salle network over the past four years, and to identify the priorities and challenges for the the next four years.
The Lasallian Assembly (AMEL) of 2018 was held from the 4th to the 6th of September in the Cristo Rey Centre for Spirituality (CECREI), in São Leopoldo-RS. It is an event which takes place every four years, to evaluate and analyse the current organisation and to identify future challenges and priorities areas of operation for the Lasallian network in the years to come.
There were 54 participants in all, and they included the Members of the Educational Mission Council, representatives from Basic Education in Brasil-Chile and Mozambique, from Higher Education and from Social Assistance of Brasil and collaborators from the District of Argentina-Paraguay. Also present were the Secretaries for the Educational Mission, Brother Néstor Anaya Marín for the Institute, and Brother Carlos Castañeda Casas for the Lasallian Region of Latin Americana (RELAL). Both spoke about the educational scene from their different points of view, global and regional.
The Brother Visitor for the De La Salle network, Edgar Genuino Nicodem, was unable to be present, but he sent an opening message in which he stressed the importance of the Assembly. “Since our beginnings, it has been part of our modus operandi (being and doing) to discern and define our goals, our ways forward and our most important projects, and to do so in a collective manner, namely through assemblies.”
The event lasted three days, and the programme included various activities. Apart from those concerned with the analysis of the Lasallian Mission, there were times for animation and spirituality, integration activities and sharing experiences on the different areas of work.
