This is the day the Lord has made;
a day for us to rejoice and be glad.
Let us rejoice and be glad because the resurrection of Jesus Christ is at once very glorious for him and highly advantageous for all of us. It is glorious for Jesus Christ because by it he overcame death. It is advantageous for us because it is an assurance of our own resurrection. 1
This year we are celebrating the 300th anniversary of the encounter between the risen Christ and John Baptist de La Salle. The expectation of this meeting is what inspired de La Salle and motivated his work of human and Christian education. We honor him and recall his memory because he points the way to Jesus Christ and invites us to discover the already present but not fully realized Reign of God through our educational service, especially with the poor. Let us rejoice and be glad because we are ambassadors of the risen Christ!
During this anniversary year, let us redouble our efforts to share the assurance of our own resurrection with our students and with all whom we meet. In this way, they too will have cause to rejoice and be glad!
