LASALLIAN ECOLOGICAL SPIRITUALITY: FORMING LASALLIANS TOWARDS THE RESTORATION OF THE INTEGRITY OF CREATION
Dr. Lysander Rivera
De La Salle University, Manila
The reality of Global Warming and its ill effects today prompts humanity to identify practicable solutions to protect the earth and its inhabitants. As recent scientific studies show that global warming is induced or aggravated by human activity, these studies too point out that humanity has a great role to play in preserving what is left of the natural world. As the Catholic Church enters the era of the “new evangelization”, it has identified “care for creation” as an integral part of Christian discipleship. Responding to this call, the Philippine Lasallian Family has developed principles, policies, and programs that are meant to form Lasallians to restore the integrity of creation. In this context, this study aimed to provide an evaluation of the current ecological practices of the Philippine Lasallian Family in the light of the Christian faith by correlating them to a Christian theology of creation. The ultimate result of this work is a framework for living the Lasallian Ecological Spirituality that is geared towards the the fulfillment of a “new heaven and a new earth”.
