The Signum Fidei Fraternity is one of the expressions of association in our Institute. In different parts of the world the laity, sometimes accompanied by Brothers, meet to live out the Lasallian charism which is expressed in prayer, service and brotherhood.

“The Signum Fidei Fraternity has been a pioneer and protagonist in rediscovering the strength of the expression ‘Together and by Association’ of the first formula of consecration of Saint John Baptist de La Salle and the first teaching Brothers. With your decision to associate through consecration for the Lasallian mission, you testify that the Lasallian laity are also today the ‘heart, memory and guarantor’ of the charism and mission of La Salle.” (Brother Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría, FSC)

On June 5, the Signum Fidei Fraternity in Chile organized a virtual meeting where prayer and spirituality were the center of dialogue between Brothers and laity.

This virtual Lasallian meeting was coordinated by the members of the Signum Fidei Chile board, Ximena González, Hugo Santibáñez and Claudio Báez.

Brother Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría, former Superior General, participated by means of a reflection entitled: “The reality of COVID-19 compared to the crisis of Saint John Baptist de La Salle in Parmenie, France.”

We highlight the following aspects of Brother Álvaro’s words:

– To make memory is to find the common thread that unifies, motivates, enriches and drives our lives.

– Rereading the letter that the Founder received when he was in Parmenie is a way of facing our own journeys in times of crisis.

– We Brothers and laity must recognize the fact that we are all on the journey together and that our light is the certainty that it is the Lord’s work that we do.

– Parmenie, or any similar crisis, can be a type of “resurrection” experience.

The words of Brother Álvaro enhanced the reflection of several of the guests, among whom were members of the Signum Fidei Fraternity, Brothers in different parts of the world and priests who are close to our charism.
