Celebrations for the 120th Anniversary of the De La Salle Brothers in Malta

As part of the 120th anniversary of the arrival of the De La Salle Brothers in Malta, the Lasallian District of Ireland, Great Britain and Malta is organising a series of events to mark this occasion.

The main celebration will take place on Founder’s Day, Monday 15 May, when the Lasallian Family will come together as one staff from both colleges. The programme will begin with a reflection by David Wells on the role of Lasallian educators, building on our past but looking to the future as we face a rapidly changing world.

A short celebratory ceremony will honour and thank all the current De La Salle Brothers of Malta for their many years of dedication and selfless commitment to providing a humane and Christian education to so many students. The event will conclude with a reception in the college courtyard for all staff members.

As the District celebrates the many years of hard work, dedication and vocation of so many Brothers and lay partners providing a human and Christian education to thousands of students, it is important to reflect on our present and future work as Christian educators, operating in a diverse and rapidly changing reality.

Lasallians in Malta believe that it would be very valuable to reflect together with all other colleagues working in the domain of church schools and in the broader educational sector, looking at the future paths of Catholic education in our country.

With this in mind, two key events have been organised.

(1) A seminar for teachers of religion working in all schools in Malta and Gozo. To facilitate this session, sharing and reflection on the role of religious education teachers in today’s world, the organisers invited David Wells.

(2) And a seminar for those responsible for Catholic education. David Wells will also facilitate this seminar, along with a group of stakeholders to facilitate a wider discussion with the audience present.
