\u201cCatholic Responsible Investments\u201d (CRI) approach, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cbisonline.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Christian Brothers Investment Services (CBIS)<\/b><\/a><b> has decided to divest from and exclude from its portfolios \u201cthose companies whose primary business involves the ownership, operation, or management of private prisons or detention facilitis.\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision took effect on June 30 and includes divestment from CoreCivic and the GEO Group, which were held in the the CRI Small Cap Fund and the U.S. CRI Magnus Funds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 2019, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the CRI team has collaborated with Catholic investors to promote human rights and restorative justice for people incarcerated or detained in facilities owned or managed by CoreCivic and the GEO Group. \u201cThis engagement was part of our broader effort to <\/span><b>promote an integral ecology rooted in human dignity, justice, and care for our common home<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d explains Jeffrey McCroy, President and CEO of CBIS. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-1 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-text-color:var(--awb-custom17);--awb-font-size:22px;\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;font-size:1em;\"><b>The Decision to Divest<\/b><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this regard, while this investment has contributed for several years to improving the situation of incarcerated individuals, detainees, and correctional staff, recent analyses have shown that, <\/span><b>unfortunately, the business model of private prisons has changed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: immigration detention has become an increasingly important source of growth and revenue for private prison operators.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the same time, changes at the federal level have since significantly weakened oversight mechanisms, including the offices responsible for investigating complaints regarding detention, civil rights issues, deficiencies in medical care, and deaths in custody.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor these reasons, CBIS has concluded that <\/span><b>continued investment in the private prison is no longer consistent with Catholic social teaching or with our Catholic Responsible Investments approach<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d states the President and CEO of CBIS.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-2 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-text-color:var(--awb-custom17);--awb-font-size:22px;\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;font-size:1em;\"><b>Fidelity to the Social Teaching of the Church<\/b><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inspired by the Lasallian tradition and values, CBIS\u2014with headquarters in the United States and Italy\u2014integrates the perspective of faith and finance in support of the Church\u2019s mission in today\u2019s world.
