In November 2019, the Superior General of the Brothers of the Christian Schools<\/a>, Br. Robert Schieler, is visiting the Lasallian region of North America (RELAN<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

E[\u2026] In the second week of the month the Brother Superior came back to home, […] the perfect timing for […] him to return to campus. \u201cIt is good to be home,\u201d<\/em> said Br. Robert, the Superior General of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of La Salle\u2019s most visible\nalumni, Br. Robert delivered a November 8 keynote address from the University\u2019s\ncampus, engaging a few thousand Lasallian\neducators on Lasallian Association by simulcast to multiple\ncluster sites across the Brothers\u2019 District of Eastern North America\n(DENA).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Superior\nGeneral\u2019s visit continued the University\u2019s celebration of the 2019 Lasallian\nJubilee Year and recognized the 10th<\/sup> anniversary of DENA, an\namalgamation of the former Districts of Baltimore, New York and Long-Island-New\nEngland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn highlighting the legacy of a Saint,\nthese events remind the University community here and abroad of the heritage\nand values that bind them together\u201d, <\/strong>said Brother Ernest Miller, FSC, D. Min., La Salle\u2019s\nVice President for Mission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The keynote\nby Br. Robert livestreamed throughout DENA\u2014from Providence, R.I., New York\nCity, and Albany, N.Y., to Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Boca Raton, Fla. He\ncalled on all DENA Lasallians to reflect on their vocation as educators as part\nof this Jubilee Year, so designated by Pope Francis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 27th<\/sup> successor of Saint La Salle<\/a> and a native Southwest Philadelphian, Br. Robert spoke of the significance of association for the mission of Lasallian education. He addressed an audience in Founders\u2019 Hall Auditorium that included Brother Dennis Lee, FSC, DENA Provincial, and Brother Timothy Coldwell, FSC, General Councilor of the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN). Br. Robert encouraged Lasallian educators to continue promoting the education of young people and drawing inspiration from Saint La Salle\u2019s \u201cdeep relationship with Jesus Christ.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In particular, he cited the work of the Bamboo School<\/a><\/em>. This Lasallian school located near the border of Thailand and Myanmar serves children of migrant families, grants them access to educational opportunities that otherwise would be out of reach, provides at least one meal per day, and assists in regularizing the students\u2019 immigration statuses.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt the very beginning of the Lasallian story, a call is heard. It\u2019s a cry that comes from the children of the artisans and the poor, and it is chanted by all children and young people who\u00a0are in need of\u00a0education. The cry does not abate throughout the narrative. It is sustaining our\u00a0story, and\u00a0puts into action its protagonists and attracts new actors to participate in the story. Later in the day, Br. Robert met with La Salle students, faculty and staff representing different segments of university life. [\u2026]. [\u2026] \u201cThis University is committed to the local and international community,\u201d Br. Robert said to La Salle\u2019s nursing and health sciences students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou not only learn, but you learn to give back. Our happiness is in giving back to others.\u201d <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Dr.\nColleen Hanycz, University President, presented Br. Robert with the\nBrother Teliow Fackeldey, FSC, Presidential Medal Award for\nOutstanding integrity, Merit and Public Service\u2014one of the highest honors\nawarded by the University. The Presidential Medal is named in honor\nBr. Teliow, the founding president of the University.  \u201cWe\nrecognize the tremendous responsibility you bear in the call to lead the\nInstitute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and the worldwide Lasallian\ncommunity,\u201d President Hanycz said, addressing Br. Robert. \u201cAllow\nus to express our deep appreciation for your dedication to this ministry, and\nour tremendous pride in the integrity and faithfulness that you witness in your\nvocation as a De La Salle Brother. We consider you one of our great\nExplorers.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
