Young Brothers of the Institute address the challenges of the ministry of catechesis

With the participation of 63 young Brothers from the five Regions of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (PARC, RELAF, RELAL, RELAN and RELEM), the Second Online Meeting organised by the Standing Committee of Young Brothers took place on 16 November to mark the Year of Catechesis.

On this occasion, the event counted with the presence of  Brother Juan Manuel Hernández Bernal, from the Lasallian District of Bogotá, who had participated in the Lasallian Research Seminar 2025 “for a renewal of catechesis,” organised by the Office of Lasallian Heritage and Research.

From the Year of Catechesis to a commitment to catechesis

“Brother Juan Manuel was able to summarise everything we experienced and reflected on during the seminar in three main ideas: he reminded us of the wonderful legacy we have as ‘apostles of the catechism’, the richness and diversity of catechesis that currently exists in the Institute, and he encouraged us to move from the Year of Catechesis to a commitment to catechesis,” said Brother Eduardo Rivera, from the Bolivia-Peru District, who is a member of the Standing Committee of Young Brothers.

“His words also provided input for deepening our identity as young Brothers and the challenge we face in this task, which is a fundamental part of our vocation,” adds Brother Eduardo.

During the meeting, after a dialogue that took place in small groups, the exchange focused on how to respond to the current challenges in the ministry of catechesis, “especially from our perspective as young Brothers,” says Brother Eduardo, “a reflection that was enriched by the experience of each of the participants and their Districts of origin.”

Assessments and prospects

At the end of the meeting, as a way of taking stock, the participants positively valued the opportunity to meet to address “a topic of special importance that we must not neglect,” such as catechesis, which also invites us to continue growing in the spirit of One La Salle

“Although the Year of Catechesis is coming to an end, the Standing Committee of Young Brothers will continue to insist that reflection and action must continue,” said Brother Eduardo Rivera, on behalf of the Committee, anticipating that “another online meeting is planned for next year, in February, in coordination with the Commission on Lasallian Youth, with the theme ‘How to talk about God to the new generation?‘”
