The Plenary Assembly

The Plenary Assembly is a fraternal encounter in a synodal perspective that convenes a group of Brothers of the Christian Schools and Lasallian Partners to discern God’s call to journey and make possible the Pathways of Transformation that will allow us to be “one Lasallian Family, with diverse vocations; leaven for a more fraternal world, sent forth to encounter God in those who are poor, and to promote justice”[1] .

Unlike the General Chapter and the International Assembly of the Lasallian Educational Mission (AIMEL), the Plenary Assembly is not a decision-making or recommendatory body for the being and work of Lasallians. Rather, it focuses on the search for consensus based on a participative dynamic that allows us to move forward together around the priorities of the Institute.

  • To review, strengthen and agree on how to live more authentically the dream of the 46th General Chapter and the III AIMEL, identifying where we have made progress, where we need to focus our attention, and where changes are required.
  • To generate a broader understanding of the Institute’s new governance model, enriching the dynamics of the Councils, Commissions and Offices.
  • To revive the “Leavening movement” by valuing the international character of the Lasallian Family and by sharing best practices and processes that are evident in the Districts.
  • To share a spiritual, fraternal and synodal experience that allows us to grow in the understanding and experience that we are ‘One La Salle’.

At the end of the Plenary Assembly, we expect to:

  • Define the areas where we need to ‘put more leaven’ and the means to do so.
  • Devise mediations to intensify the new governance model of the Institute and its possible replication at local level.
  • Keep the fire of the “Leavening movement” alive and to make it possible in every corner of the Lasallian geography.

Inspired by the spirit of the Institute and the Rule of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, the methodology of the Plenary Assembly is expressed from a synodal-Lasallian perspective:
