Br Armin Luistro, newly elected Superior General, has appointed Br Patrick Tierney as Visitor pro tempore for the Lasallian East Asia District (LEAD). The appointment will take effect on 25 May 2022.

Br. Patrick, born in 1942, of Irish origin, took the habit in 1958, made his first vows in 1959 and his final vows in 1967.

Appointed Auxiliary Visitor of the Penang District for the first time in 1989, he remained in office until 1998. Between 2019 and 2022, he was appointed Auxiliary Visitor of the East Asia District.

Brother Patrick has participated in all APLEC Asia Pacific Lasallian Educators’ Congresses as head of the Hong Kong delegation, in turn helping Hong Kong host APLEC meetings in 1998 and 2007.

Br Patrick has also published many books, of poetry and prose, Lasallian spirituality and a religious education textbook for Hong Kong secondary schools. In addition to these works, he also wrote the Hong Kong newsletter, ‘Gateway’, and spiritual writings for the Hong Kong Lasallian Family website.

He will celebrate his diamond jubilee in 2024.

The LEAD District has 27 communities and 127 Brothers with an average age of about 50 (as many as 30 are between 30 and 39 years old). Outside the District there are 6 Brothers. There are about 125 Associates. There are as many as 90 educational ministries, with over 55,000 students enrolled. There are 50,141 male lay collaborators working in them; there are about 6,800 lay women collaborators.
