Superior General
“The Brother Superior General is elected by the General Chapter and he exercises his authority over the whole Institute, in accordance with the norms of Canon Law and the Institute legislation.”

On 18 May 2022, the 46th General Chapter of the Brothers of the Christian Schools elected Brother Armin A. Luistro FSC as the 28th Superior General of the Institute.
Brother Armin was born on 24 December 1961 in Lipa, Batangas Province, Philippines. He was a student at La Salle Lipa, where he completed his primary and secondary education.
He initiated the formation programme of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in April 1979 in Manila while studying at De La Salle University (DLSU). He received the religious habit in October 1981. One year later, he professed his first religious vows in October 1982. He then completed his formation as a Scholastic in Mandaluyong City in 1983 and made his perpetual profession in May 1988.
Brother Armin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and Letters from DLSU, where he also earned a Master’s Degree in Religious Education and Values. He also holds a Doctorate in Educational Management from the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod (Philippines).
He began his teaching career in his homeland, at La Salle Lipa, where he served as a religion teacher, counsellor and pastoral coordinator between 1983 and 1986. Subsequently, after performing various services and responsibilities in various Lasallian ministries, he was appointed Visitor of the then District of the Philippines for the period 1997-2003.
Brother Armin brings more than 34 years of experience and leadership in the public and private sectors. On 26 August 2000, Brother Armin co-founded De La Salle Catholic University in Manado, now known as De La Salle University Indonesia, with Monsignor Joseph Suwatan, Bishop of Manado.
He served as Secretary of the Department of Education for his country from June 2010 to 2016. Prior to that, he had led De La Salle University, serving as its President from April 2004 to June 2010.
In previous years, he was also President of the La Salle university system and several La Salle schools. From 2017 to 2019, he assumed the Presidency of La Salle Philippines, the network of La Salle schools in the country. In May 2019, he was appointed Brother Visitor of the Lasallian District of East Asia (LEAD).
In his extensive career, Brother Armin has been a member of the board of directors of Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), the country’s largest business-led non-governmental organisation. He has also held various positions in other governmental and intergovernmental organisations, such as the Advisory Council of the National Youth Commission (NYC), the Philippine National Commission for UNESCO, and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO). He has also been an active member of the Philippine Council for the Certification of NGOs (PCNC), the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Philippine Business for Education (PBEd), and the Sidhay Foundation for Street Children.
As Superior General of the Institute, Brother Armin is a member of the Union of Superiors General, based in Rome. On 24 June 2025, Pope Leo XIX appointed Brother Armin as a member of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
