“The peace that Jesus gives us is not merely the silence of weapons, but the peace that touches and transforms the heart of each one of us! Let us allow ourselves to be transformed by the peace of Christ! Let us make heard the cry for peace that springs from our hearts!” stated Pope Leo XIV during his Urbi et Orbi message, delivered on Easter Sunday from the central balcony of St Peter’s Basilica. “For this reason, I invite everyone to join me in a prayer vigil for peace that we will celebrate here in Saint Peter’s Basilica next Saturday, April 11”.
Responding to this call from the Pope, the Union of Superiors General (USG) “invites religious communities to participate in large numbers in this moment of prayer, a sign of communion and hope for the world”.
“The vigil offers an opportunity to join spiritually in the prayer of the universal Church, entrusting the gift of peace to the Lord”, continues the USG statement, encouraging religious in Rome, as well as all religious throughout the world, to join the prayer vigil which will be presided over by Pope Leo XIV himself – as reported by the Holy See Press Office – and will take place in St Peter’s Basilica next Saturday at 6.00 pm (Rome time).
The prayer service will be open to “the participation of all the faithful” and will also be broadcast via the Vatican News YouTube channel.
