“Potential should not be limited by circumstances”. With this conviction, the La Salle Technical Training Institute (LTTI) opened its doors in Nairobi (Kenya) on 15 May 2026, during the celebrations for St John Baptist de La Salle, Founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and Universal Patron of all Educators, with the aim of addressing the growing need to ensure young people have access to high-quality technical and vocational education.
In this way, the LTTI offers young people new pathways to realise their dreams through practical, future-oriented technical training, rooted in the Lasallian values of faith, service, community and human dignity.
With over 40 students currently enrolled, the LTTI represents an opportunity for those who wish to embrace their future with determination. To this end, they are supported by the Brothers of the Lwanga District, as well as other partners and benefactors.
Located on North Lang’ata Road in Karen (Nairobi), the Institute offers programmes in cybersecurity, data management and analysis, and artificial intelligence programming, as well as short courses in information and communication technologies (ICT).
The programmes combine academic learning with practical, applied training, designed to prepare students for employment, entrepreneurship, further education and meaningful participation in Kenya’s growing digital economy.
Building a better future
To achieve this, “students admitted to the Institute receive support for accommodation, daily living expenses and transport between the campus, Kibera and the surrounding areas. This support helps to reduce the financial barriers they face and enables them to focus on their education and build a better future”, says Brother James R. Martino, Executive Director of the project.
However – Brother James continues – this new Lasallian initiative “is not limited to providing financial support, but seeks to recognise each student’s potential, accompany them in their training and equip them with the necessary skills”.
For his part, Brother Betre Fisseha, Visitor of the Lwanga District, affirms that the La Salle Technical Training Institute is a new and hopeful expression of our Lasallian Mission. “True to the call of Saint John Baptist de La Salle to ‘touch hearts’, the LTTI seeks not only to equip young people with relevant technological skills, but also to instil values in them and give them the confidence and hope they need to transform their lives and make a meaningful contribution to their communities”, he concludes.
