The Rector of La Salle University Canoas, Prof. Dr. Paulo Fossatti, FSC, has been appointed as a member of the National Education Council.

The mandate, announced in the Union’s ‘Official Journal’, will last four years.*

The CNE (National Council for Education) has as its mission the search for alternatives and institutional mechanisms to ensure society’s participation in the development, improvement and consolidation of quality national education within the scope of its competences.

Paulo Fossatti is very active in Brasilia, having been President of the National Association of Catholic Education (ANEC) in Brazil (2014-2016) and Director (2018-2020). He has also been actively involved in campaigns in defence of philanthropy and the maintenance of scholarships for students in the Universities for All (Prouni) programme.

Br Paulo Fossatti earned his PhD in Educational Sciences from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul – PUCRS (2009) and his post-doctorate in Educational Sciences. He was a research associate at the University of Algarve (2011). He graduated in Philosophy (1993) and Psychology (1997) from the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos. Specialist in school administration at Unilasalle Canoas/RS (1999).

He is also a specialist in Human Development Neuroscience at Unilasalle (2021) with a Masters in Social and Institutional Psychology at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2002).

Professor and researcher of the Graduate Programme in Education at La Salle University – RS, and Rector of this University.

In 2016, he was awarded the Pinto Bandeira Medal by the Municipality of Canoas for relevant services to the community. In 2018, he received the Farroupilha Medal of Merit from the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio Grande do Sul and the Encomio Metropolitano from the State Metropolitan Police Command.

He has experience in the field of education, on topics such as education management, higher education, teaching methodologies, contemporary education, educational practices and quality education.

About the National Education Council

The powers of the Council are normative, deliberative and advisory to the Minister of Education, in the exercise of the functions and attributions of the federal public power in the field of education, being responsible for the formulation and evaluation of national educational policy, the supervision of the quality of education, the fulfilment of educational legislation and the participation of society in the improvement of Brazilian education.

It is up to the Council and the Chambers to exercise the powers conferred by Law 9.131/95, issuing opinions and deciding privately and independently on matters within their competence and, in the case of decisions by the Chambers, appealing to the full Council.
