World Youth Day*, often referred to as WYD, is an international gathering of Catholic youth focused on spirituality and culture, promoted by the Catholic Church at the initiative of the Pope.

It is a tradition that, taking advantage of the presence of so many Lasallians at the celebration of the Catholic youth worldwide, they come together to share the joy of fraternity. In past editions of the WYD, such as those held in Madrid (2011), Rio de Janeiro (2013), Krakow (2016) and Panama City (2019), interesting events took place and the one in Lisbon will be no exception!

Under the leadership of  Salle Joven Arlep (Young Lasallian Movement of Spain and Portugal) and with the support of Young Lasallians (Rome), Young Lasallians from all over the world are invited to participate in the WORLD GATHERING OF YOUNG LASALLIANS – WYD 2023, who will meet in Lisbon and will be accompanied by Brother Superior General and some members of the General Council.

Those interested in participating can check the website and register here: https://www.sallejoven.es/?p=14220

*World Youth Days are celebrated in two ways:

  • at an international level, every two or three years in a specific city in the world chosen by the Pontiff, with a large number of participants from all over the world. The latest international gathering, the third presided over by Pope Francis, was held from 22 to 27 January 2019 in Panama.
  • at diocesan level, every year. The meetings are organised by the various dioceses worldwide and in St Peter’s Square in Rome with the pope. Originally set on Palm Sunday, it was moved by Pope Francis to the Solemnity of Christ the King (the Sunday between 20 and 26 November) from 2021.
